The importance of awnings and temperature control in your home are often overlooked when in the design phase of you dream home or renovation of your family and entertainment areas in an existing home. Managing Heat transfer in a home contributes to the Green effect that is spoken about in homes and will save you MONEY in the long run.

With a wide range of awning styles and designs we offer, there is a simple affordable solution to cool down most areas of your home. You can either opt for a fixed or retractable design. The advantage of a retractable type awning, is that in winter you can allow the sun to filter into the house to increase nominal temperature. Choosing the correct fabric with specified rating is very important, lighter colours allow more light transfer, but are more effective in heat transfer outwards.
THE FOLLOWING IS A SIMPLE CASE STUDY TO HELP YOU REALIZE THE EFFECTIVNESS OF AWNINGS IN A COMMON SITUATION:
House Habib (Photo below) is an ordinary middle class style home, with comfortable finishes. The Habibs are big on family and enjoy relaxing around their family dining table from mid afternoon. The image seen below was taken at 3pm in the afternoon, by 5:30 pm the sun shines right across to the opposite side of the dining room. This living space is unbearable and moving the table was not an option. The Habibs installed internal blockout and shearweave roller blinds around the house. Indoor blinds only cut out the actual sunlight and do not assist with heat reflection in any way. With windows open and fan on, they measured their internal temperature at 32 degrees Celsius on the day of the study, external temperature 34 degrees Celsius.
A month Later Awnings.co.za installed this simple wedge awning costing around R6000.00, The resulting temperature recorded as follows: On a day that was 34 degrees Celsius outside, the room measured 25 degrees Celsius, a reduction in heat of up to 30%. This was an amazing addition to the house and has a resulted in a more comfortable environment. The kids have even become more focused when doing their homework in the lounge and now we have a happy Habib family.
